I love your marionette idea - Mother Nature plays us like puppets - some of us worse than others. Your illustration is again very well done and I like your choice of patterns.

I was just thinking about this very thing this morning. The Salvation Army depot in Fort Worth is getting bogged down due to lack of volunteers to help sort and distribute the tons and tons of supplies and such for the hurricane survivors living in our area.
As for the illustration, I love the colors and textures, really lovely.

thank you everyone! I had thought of trying this in collage, or after receiving ATC from Fiona, a sewn piece. Of course I was just dreaming about the time I had to do that! So as usual resorted to the quick and easy computer. (slapping my hand now). So instead of paper, or fabric, I took a little more time on this one to add the texture to the clothes.
This really does show how humans are essentially powerless in the face of the strong elements of nature. As a concept, this is striking and powerful. On a purely visual level, I love the composition and the use of the various patterns within your shapes. Well done, Kim!

This is a poignant illustration with sorrow and hope mixed. I really love your style - it shows in everything you do (or at least the things I've seen you post publically ...) Plus I like that you are thinking of the victims of the most recent tragedies even after some of the hubbub has died down. It's true with everyone who experiences a loss, or a tragedy or both ... that at first there is alot of attention (eg, at the funeral/memorial service/ all the casseroles and pans of cinnamon rolls brought to the homes of the grieving family) yet, when everyone goes home and the funeral is over and the stream of sympathy cards has dwindled to a mere trickle ... that's when the emptiness seems particularly painful, vast, overwhelming. For others, life gets back to normal, but for the victims, or the one left behind ... it takes much longer. I usually wait to send a card or bring food over until I'm pretty sure cards and casseroles aren't coming every day. That's when we all need hugs and love even more. IMO.
